It’s through action and innovation that PLC is supporting climate transformation and preservation of biodiversity.
With the inclusion of circularity to our main business operations, we can reduce our overall manufacturing footprint while continuing to scale and expand. Technologies such as pyrolysis, which captures and re-uses waste heat and gas are used in the creation of our primary circular product, Charged Carbon.
Leveraging the voluntary carbon markets and existing protocols, we have developed scalable, high-volume, high-quality carbon credits in our Upstream (forestry) and our Midstream (carbonization) business units. With a focus on additionality and transparency, we are developing Scope 3 credit opportunities from our Downstream business and clients.
We are supporting industry in their sustainability and R&D initiatives around propagation and cultivation practices, single-use polymers, regenerative agriculture, and GHG reduction projects. Driving innovation in Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) technologies is also part of our internal R&D initiatives.

As reporting requirements for ESG and climate commitments become regulated and a key performance metric of overall business operations and value, companies will develop a GHG baseline for their entire value chain, including their Scope 3 emissions, and will set an internal cost of carbon.
Charged Carbon has a direct Scope 3 emissions savings for the consumer when compared to other growing substrates, such as peat.

Social, environmental, and economic progress starts where we have the most impact.
Value chain initiatives, renewable technologies, and circularity will support PLC’s journey into a net-zero future. This includes implementing energy transition technologies such as solar and pyrolysis into our operations, diversifying the Upstream and Midstream businesses out of China, and introducing a scalable circular business model for our Advanced Carbon Technologies.
Identifying water as a shared natural resource, PLC is providing Advanced Carbon Products to the CEA community which consume less water than traditional mediums. PLC is advancing its forestry practices, feedstock selection and processing technologies to reduce its water consumption and become more resilient.
The preservation of biodiversity and land-use change into designated protected ecosystems are part of PLC’s Upstream strategy. Nature equity supports long-lasting community partnerships and is a vital component towards hitting the 1.5-degree C (Paris Agreement) climate goals. PLC is advancing its biodiversity credit opportunities which will further support the investment into nature.

When bamboo naturally decomposes, all the CO2 captured during its life span is released back into the atmosphere, along with methane, due to natural degradation.
By selectively and sustainably farming, end-of-life and waste bamboo can be used for raw material production. This process permanently captures CO2 in physical form while preserving the natural function of the forest.
Bamboo forests will have varying degrees of growth curves, biomass, and time to maturity. Once optimized, these forests projects can create carbon credits which can be traded in the voluntary carbon markets. These projects are defined as Nature Based Solutions (NBS).
The carbon sequestered in the bamboo through photosynthesis is then permanently secured and transformed into long-lived carbon through a carbonization process called pyrolysis. The product, Advanced Carbon, is highly durable with a 1,000+ years of permanence. The carbonization process is considered a high-quality carbon removal and can be traded in the carbon markets.
